November 2025 Sugar Market News

Kenya’s sugar industry recorded a strong upswing in November 2025, with notable increases in sugarcane milling, sugar production, miller sales, and closing stocks compared to October. The growth was driven by the full resumption of milling in factories across the Upper and Lower Western catchment areas, which boosted national output despite a few mills remaining closed.

Molasses production and sales also increased during the month, while closing stocks rose significantly. At the same time, average molasses prices eased, suggesting some relief in the by-products market as supply improved.

Market prices continued to soften in November. Ex-factory, wholesale, and retail sugar prices all declined, reflecting improved domestic availability. Sugarcane prices remained unchanged at Kshs. 5,750 per tonne, in line with the minimum set price.

On the trade front, sugar imports increased slightly from October levels, with refined sugar taking a larger share of total imports. Sugar exports declined sharply during the month, while molasses exports remained inactive. Globally, sugar prices fell further in November, reflecting weaker international prices and expectations of a continued global surplus.
