October 2025 Sugar Market News
Kenya’s sugar industry recorded a strong rebound in October 2025, with significant increases in sugarcane milling, sugar production, and miller sales compared to September. The improvement was largely driven by the resumption of operations in several factories across the Upper and Lower Western catchment areas, boosting overall industry output despite continued closures of some mills.
Molasses production and sales also rose sharply during the month, reflecting increased milling activity. However, molasses closing stocks declined, indicating stronger market uptake of by-products.
Market prices trended downward in October. Ex-factory, wholesale, and retail sugar prices all declined slightly, suggesting improved supply conditions in the domestic market. Sugarcane prices remained stable at Kshs. 5,750 per tonne, in line with the minimum set price.
On the trade front, sugar imports declined marginally from September levels, while molasses exports remained inactive. Global sugar prices continued their downward trend, reflecting softer international market conditions and sustained expectations of a global surplus.
