Nairobi, Kenya – August 1, 2024: The Sugar Directorate has issued an important update to all sugar millers regarding the official price of sugarcane for the month of August 2024. This decision comes in the wake of the expiration of the interim cane pricing committee, which had been overseeing the determination of cane prices.
With the absence of a newly appointed Cabinet Secretary to establish a new committee, the Directorate has taken proactive steps to ensure stability in the industry. The interim price for sugarcane has been set at Kshs. 4,950 per ton for the month of August. This pricing will serve as a temporary guideline for all millers until a formal committee is reconstituted or further directives are issued.
This move aims to maintain continuity in the sugar industry's operations during this period of administrative transition, ensuring that both millers and cane farmers have a clear pricing structure to follow. Millers are expected to comply with this interim pricing to avoid any disruptions in the supply chain.
The Sugar Directorate remains committed to supporting the industry and will provide additional guidance as the situation evolves.
